I am also in CA and live nearby the USC. I am going to take my ck in June. After that I have plan to do some research. So @qwerty what does the grand round means? Do they take newcomer without experience as a volunteer? What are the procedures to get there ? Just email them or you have to have some contacts?

Are the research coordinator and the program coordinator the same person or are they different?

@sys_71082 Hi. Can we get research opportunities while on B1 visa or do we have to get J1 visa?

if its just voluntary it doesnt matter as long as you have a visa on your own...for paid position i dontk now. like qwerty8688 suggested, id contact them

For volunteer position, it doesn't matter. As long as you can stay in the states legally, you can volunteer with any visa type.
For paid positions, you need a social security number.
