Just called NRMP and he said someone who has not passed any steps or not ECFMG certified, would not be ELIGIBLE for SOAP.

That's interesting. I wasn't ECFMG certified during SOAP last year and I was eligible. Must be a new rule?

You do not have to be ECFMG certified to participate in the match or SOAP. You do however need to complete the requirements for ECFMG certification EXCEPT for graduation from medical school. STEP 1, STEP 2 CK, STEP 2 CS are a definite requirements. ECFMG certification is require ONLY by the start of residency (July)

After registration opens for the Main Residency Match, the NRMP contacts ECFMG once each week to verify whether the applicant has passed USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK and CS. NRMP does not verify if you have the ECFMG certificate.
