Co poisoning - paganini
#1
What neurologic disease is related with survivors of severe CO poisoning?
What parameters are affected in bood gas?
How to diagnose it?
left or right shift?
ETC, what enzyme is inhibited?
Symptoms of toxicity?
During what time of year occurs most cases?
Population at highest risk (by age)?
Why O2 saturation decreases?
Is Co perfusion or diffusion limeted?
What is the importance of the above?
Pt. with TB vs normal Pt. who is at highest risk for CO posioning and why?
Treatment?

Lets make this more interesting:

25 yo male comes to ER complaining of suicidal thoughts and depression. The patient attempted to inhale carbon monoxide by putting a bag over his head and breathing in tail pipe fumes. He patient passed out briefly and then woke up. The patient decided to come to the ED, got back in his car and drove to the ER. He feels somewhat agitated and is crying. He does admit to temporary loss of consciousness while trying to kill himself. The patient drank alcohol yesterday, and used marijuana this morning, as well cocaine yesterday. Which findings would you expect?
A-Increased Co2, Decreased Po2, decreased O2 saturation
B-Normal ATP
C-Increased ATP
D-Decreased intracelullar NADH/NAD ratio
E-Necrosis of the globus paliddus
F-Impaired diffusion capacity
G-Decreased affinity of Hb for O2
H-Abdominal pain
I-Decreased O2 content, Po2 and O2 saturation
J-Normal PO2, normal O2 saturation, decreased Po2
K-Hyperventilation
L-Tachycardia

the only option fitting in is G .PO2 is normal,O2 content is decreased and O2 per gram of Hb is decreased in CO poisoning.

neurologic disease in survivors i think is blindness owing to retinal detachement..
in blood gas PO2 normal,O2 content dec,Per garm O2 dec
diagnose is cherry red complexion
O2 saturation dec as it is abt 240times more avidity fr Hb
it is dif limited as in blood partial pressure is nil
treatment is giving hyperbaric O2
etc cyta/a3 complex 4 is inhibited
pop highest at risk are fire fighters i guess

correct any wrong entry and give ans to the rest

The correct answer is H. At low CO levels victims may have headache, dizziness, abdominal pain and nausea, wth higher levels, confusion, dyspnea and syncope may occur. All the other choices are wrong. Co poisoning results in normal PO2, decreased O2 saturation and decreased O2 content. The other answers are easy so I wont write all the other explanations.

The neurologic disorder associated with survivors of severe CO poisoning is parkinson(refer to Washington manual of therapeutics).
Try to answer the others.

Ah, forgot to say that it can't be G. CO poisoning causes left shifted curve
