why don't u take step3 now, u will get your score after3-4 weeks, and by premium processing you wil be able to be on time to start residency on H1..

Step 3 is required for application of H1B by the US immigration office. You can get a J1 without Step 3. Rochesterny is right. Just take the exam, and you can have H1B within 2 wks once you have the score if you speed up the application (extra $1000)
