How good is externship - crazy79

Hi everyone,

I graduated in 2004, have all 3 steps cleared in first attempt with ok scores, have extensive research exp. with very good LORs (not in Peds though,i applied only for peds).

If i don't match this year I would like to try again next year after doing an externship. Do you think it would make a difference and guarantee a residency position for me next year?

try and scramble into a prelim position...medicine or surgery...a year of pst graduate experience will pretty much guarantee you a match next year.

thanx titans.may be i will try that. BTW do you or anybody else know how to get into an externship? I am currently in california and would love to get a position here. but i think most externships r in the east coast.
