what is a pass in USMLE -
#1
Kumar Sundaram - ksundaram

How do they judge the success in USMLE. Is there a set score to pass, or it's based on percentile?

Is just a pass sufficient enough or a higher score required to qualify for residency.

Thanks for any help.

A score of 182 is required to pass Step-1 which is equivalent to 75 percentile. Score requirements are based on which programs you choose. Always aim for high scores so that you'll have better chances to get into good programs.

a 75 is just a scaled score, not percentile. I've seen one with a 228/92, another with 230/93. I myself got 235/95. Anything from 240 up will be converted into 99 on a two digit scale score. Hope this clear up the mistake.

As of May 1999, percentile information is no longer provided in connection with reports of USMLE scores.
