ABG pH 7.48, PCO2 24 HCO3 19 BE 15 is consistent with:
A. Mixed metabolic and respiratory acidosis B. Acute respiratory alkalosis C. Metabolic acidosis with compensated respiratory alkalosis – D. Chronic respiratory disease - No
E. Mountain climber after several weeks at altitude – F. Hyperventilating consistent with acclimatisation to altitude –…

I THINK ANY C/C RESP D/S SHOULD GIVE YOU A RESP ACIDOSIS DUE TO ACCUMULATION OF CO2

i think it's E as well.

based on what i learned.
step wise

1st step = look at ph. = increase ==> met. alk. or resp. alk.
2nd. step = look at co2 = if less than 40 ==> that means its resp. alklosis
3rd step = choose formula to decide if it's acute or chronic
= remember = every change of 10 in pCO2
pH increase by 0.08 if acute and 0.03 if chronic
HCO3 decrease by 2 in acute and 5 in chronic.
In this case
7.48 alkalosis
24 pco2 = respiratory alkalosis
using step 3 = we know its chronic.

It can't be C because primary problem is Respiratory not metabolic. i guess.

please correct me.. I may be wrong.too. .. thanks.. so what's the answer and explanation?
