when you have metastasis any pt that has ca history and came with back pian which you think that is metastasis you have to start steroid high dose and then go for mri typical case is a woman which has breast ca metastatic came with lower back pain or man with prostate ca

in patients with metastatic lesions to spinal cord and presenting with signs and symps of cord compression, glucocorticoids are a must even before sending to MRI.
In patients with traumatic spinal cord injury, the role of glucocorticoids is not well defined. It is controversial and not much evidence showing potential benefit. If you give corticosteroids here, you should give within 8 hrs of injury
