I am 99% sure LA is Los Angeles, CA and not the Great State of Louisiana, right? From Louisiana, you can drive up to Fort Smith. (at least from Shreveport and nearby areas). From California, you'll have to fly. If you're OK with renting a car and driving, you can fly into Shreveport, Oklahoma City or Little Rock and drive about 2.5-4 hours to Fort Smith.
