Hi everyone,,

I needed the answers with explanation of two questions in NBME form 6 Block 1... In 42 question it has a graph in it and another question no 43 is the Cross section of Medulla?...

I will write down the questions but to see the graph and the cross section of medulla figure and let me know about it.......
----------------------------------------
Q 42.... A dashed line on the graph shows Alveolar ventilation (Va)
Q43.....Certain chromosomal abnormalities can result in rudimentary development......
-----------------------------------------
Thanks and Keep studying

for Que 42...

I think the

The answer is EEE..

Halothane is a general anaesthetic....so it will depress the respiratory centre..

therefore alv ventilation will go down..
and since u r not ventilating well...therefore CO2 will accumulate...

so cO2 increases..

therefore if u look at the graph...

E= inc CO2and dec AV..

therfore E shud be the answer..

Correct me if worng!

For C....inorder to recognise the stuctures...look at the upper medulla cross section in kaplan nueroanatomy....

its exactly the same..

E= corticospinal tract
d= olivary nucleus
c=inf cerebral peduncle
b= 12th cranial nerve nucleus ( since it is medially located)

a= nucleus of vagus nerve (not sure though on this one)

now because here in the que its said the cerebral hemispheres are not developed...
therefore pyramids which is a part of corticospinal tract will also not be developed...

therefore CST which is EE will be expected to be most underdeveloped...

thats the only sense i can make out of the que..

again correct me if wrong!!

ans spare my typos ...

thnks Smile

so both 42 43 answrs seems to be EEE
