A 21 yr old man is admitted to the hospital after being hit by a hockey stick. He has fractured his nasal bones and has csf rhinorrhea. On 3rd day of hospitalization he develops fever, lethargy and stiff neck. Analysis of csf shows: WBC count- 2010/mm3, Neutrophils- 92%, Lymphocytes-8%, RBC-20/mm3, Protein-190 mg/dl, Glucose-12 mg/dl,

A Gram stain of csf shown has diplococci. Which of the following bacterial products promotes virulence of the infecting organism?

A. Capsular Polysaccharide
B. Endotoxin
C. M Protein
D. Shiga-like toxin
E. Urease

As i think its B because i read in kaplan microbiology book where it says for gram negative pathogenic factor is polysaccharide but virulence factor is outer membran or lps or endotoxin.
but someone in NBME ans has answered A polysaccharide could any one explain why its A according to kaplan its B....
or please explain difference between virulence factor and pathogenic factor of microoganism...
thanks
