CCS - Stop IV Fluids when transfuse RBCs? - gudiyaa
#1
So if there's a case of someone hemorrhaging with a H&H of 7 and 21, obviously it is time to transfuse. Do we stop IV Fluids when we transfuse or do we continue IV Normal Saline and transfuse packed RBCs at the same time? Why? Thanks.

In that case you usually have 2 IV lines or a 2 lumen central line , so there no need to stop IV infusion, if was the case that you only have 1 IV, the problem is RBC and Dextrose not with Saline. In that case you have to stop the infusion

I asked because in UW case 25 ccs in the written cases, there was GI hemorrhage and they stopped IV normal saline when giving rbc tranfusion, then restarted normal saline after transfusion was done.

you have to stop iv infusion in CCS software and order PRBC transfusion.

This is not true for real life.
