Rectal Exam (Abdominal Pain) - sonike65

I was reading the minicases of Abd Pain, Why rectal exam is included in the workup? Can somebody explain, please? THANKS !

To look for bleeding, rectal sphincter tightness etc i think so

dubu..... ....it is right ...u do rectal exam to look for blood, hemorrhoid , and anal fisher , if i didnt write rectal exam i use FOB ( fecal occult blood ), make sure spill out the FOB because its not in the abbreviation list.

Thanks cbcman, they call it testing rectal patency my colleague does it all the time in ER just to show off, she create bigfuss in ER asking for gloves collecting crowd around her, i dont think that is going to be anyhelp because hemorrhoids can be said for sure only with anoscopy. !,

when i did my internal medicine , my resident used to ask all new student to show him his fingers and the one with longest or the one he wants him/her to do it he would say u r just perfect .
what about external ones
