mnop22- what you are saying is correct but thats to do with FUTURE CV events.
this question is about his poor prognosis as is. his CHF is going to be the reason he dies in hospital not his DM.
if he was an outpatient not needing urgent surgery then yes DM would have been the answer.

His EF is less than 35% and so thats indicative of defer surgery or poor prognosis

My resident friend who took Step 3 recently says otherwise though. He said it could be DM because its a cardiac cath and that would be the long-term poor prognosis.

damn!!!
Ok so i have read and re-read this question many times and i thought it said he was gonna have a cath but because of the 3 vessel disease (and because he is diabetic) he needs urgent surgery.
remember diabetic patients with 3 vessel disease need CABG (another UW Q!!).
why o why do they write such questions?!!

answer is B I got that correct....DM is the strongest indicator for CAD. Also, to note is glycemic control will prevent microvascular changes but not macrovascular changes.

sorry did not read question right the hear failure....is the worst prognostic factor but DM if the question stated strongest risk factor for CAD
