Inserting a spinal tap needle in the lumbar region, in the midline, you hear and feel a 'pop' at the needle tip. What structure was perforated to cause the 'pop?'

A. intervertebral disk

B.anterior longitudinal ligament

C.ligamentum flavum

D.dura mater

E.arachnoid mater

its C.....the first give is that of the ligamentum flavum...then you push the needle a little bit more for the second give of dura mater ..now you know that you are in the sub arachnoid space as the arachnoid membrane and the dura are flushed together.

The needle must pass through;

1- Skin
2- Facia and SC fat
3- Surpaspinous ligament
3- Interspinous ligament
5- Ligamentum flavum
6- Spinal canal
