Churg: Danbury is ranked in the top 5% of hospitals for some types of surgeries. The Pathology residency program is certainly not ranked in the top 5th. My point is that Danbury is not one of the best places to do a pathology residency. I think that just about any university program is going to be better regarded than a community program such as Danbury. Furthermore if you have to go to a community program then go to one of the best ones such as Penrose St Francis in Colorado.

Funloving: I have heard some other things about Danbury that I don't feel comfortable repeating because they are hearsay. However, if you do decide to interview at Danbury talk to as many of the residents as you can in private about how they feel about the program and the program director.

As I said, I cancelled my interview at Danbury. I took the view that I would rather scramble than match there.
happy new year to all of you
passed my step-3, the second best thing that may happen on 1st January, first best thing would obviously had been a prematch offer from the place i wish.

But i now rank this as the best thing on 1st January
Regarding Danbury: I should note that I've been invited and interviewed at some very high programs, and yet Danbury has not invited me. Maybe this is because I am a research person, with good publications, who has not yet taken step 3. The research might interest certain top programs, enough to invite someone (although one of these programs has told me, and another has hinted, that probably I'll not be ranked high enough to match there, due to the program getting applicants even more competitive than they had anticipated); the lack of step 3, or the amount of time since receiving my MD may be a turn-off to the very low programs, who maybe do not care much about research. This is very speculative, but I thought I should add it to the discussion.
Hi w4c3,

First of all, congratulations on your pre-match position. You wrote that you had: "...Long working hours (7Am to 9pm)..."

By any chance, are you at Brigham and Women's, in Boston? A little surprised to read about your 14-hour day, I started flipping through the program stats on the FRIEDA website. Of the ones that I checked (in the northeast and central east coast), I found one with 70 hours/per week and it was Brigham. Of course, the programs may be understating the actual amount of hours, like car manufacturers stating the MPG that their cars get, which never end up being that low when you actually buy the car and drive it. Still, I suspect that the programs which say 70 or 60 hours, probably have longer hours than the ones which say 48 or 50.
hello
does anyone have any information about hartford hospital ...
Thank you, erythrocyte. I am not in Boston and will not tell which program I am in. My classmate was in Brigham program and worked occasionally until 2AM. The working time is underestimated by the program. First I have to finish grossing specimen and then spend a lot of time to review slides.
dear w4c3 and happy_doctor or any kind soul

does anyone have any information about hartford hospital
Erythrocyte: What are your board scores? Do you have an ECFMG certificate? When did you get your MD degree and was your research done in the US?

Hi everyone! Happy New Year to you all!!

I agree 100% with Jok about Danbury... and even if it is a top 5 hospital, it does NOT mean it has a top 5 residency.... completely different issues.

I haven't got prematch offers so far.. Heard from some programs stating they will rank me high and bla bla.. but I believe they send it to everybody. I have 2 more interviews in January.

No invitations, no rejections since a long time

Hope everybody is doing well
